Jesse Hagopian awarded 2015 Cultural Freedom Fellowship

Educator, activist, and author Jesse Hagopian is the recipient of a 2015 Cultural Freedom Fellowship to support the book tour for his book More than a Score: The New Uprising Against High Stakes Testing. Amid the largest revolt in US history against high-stakes testing, many in the new movement have come to view the stories and strategies of More Than a Score as a crucial tool for building the movement. A diverse array of teachers, students, parents, and organizations has sponsored and attended each tour event, creating important discussions and strategies for organizing.

Collectively, thousands of people have come out to see Jesse Hagopian alongside leading local activists, from Teachers’ Union President Gwen Sullivan (Portland), to education author Wayne Au (Seattle), to former Secretary of Education Diane Ravitch (Brooklyn, NY), to members of the Baltimore Algebra Project. Jesse has been able to tap into the intensity and frustration of teachers who have been forced to accept the regime of testing for too long and to provide some ideas and inspiration for collective action moving forward.
