Carrie Fountain's poems have appeared in Poetry Magazine, American Poetry Review, and the New Yorker, among other publications. Her poetry collections include The Life (Penguin, 2021), Instant Winner (Penguin, 2014), and Burn Lake (Penguin, 2010), which was a National Poetry Series winner. She has also published a novel for young adults, I'm Not Missing (Flatiron Books, 2018) and the children's book The Poem Forest (Candlewick, 2022), about the life and legacy of poet and ecologist W.S. Merwin. In 2019 Fountain was named Poet Laureate of the state of Texas. She lives with her family in Austin and gives readings and teaches writing workshops across the country.
