David Wong Louie (1954-2018) was born and raised in New York and was educated at Vassar College and The University of Iowa.
He was the author of the novel The Barbarians are Coming and the short story collection Pangs of Love, which won the Los Angeles Times Book Review First Fiction Award, the Ploughshares First Fiction Book Award, was a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of 1991, and a Voice Literary Supplement Favorite of 1991. He was also awarded a Lannan Writing Fellowship in 2001.
Louie taught in the Department of English and the Asian-American Studies Center at UCLA and lived in Venice, CA.
