Gary Paul Nabhan is an ethnobotanist and natural history writer whose early books include Cultures of Habitat, Gathering the Desert, and The Desert Smells Like Rain. Mr. Nabhan, who has written eloquently about the connection between the health of the environment and cultural diversity, is a co-founder of Native Seeds/SEARCH, a conservation organization working to preserve the traditional crops of the Southwest. He is also director of conservation and science at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
