John Keene

John Keene's Counternarratives (New Directions, 2015) won the 2016 American Book Award. His other books include Annotations; the poetry-art collection Seismosis with artist Christopher Stackhouse; the collaboration GRIND with photographer Nicholas Muellner; and his latest book Playland. His translation of Brazilian author Hilda Hilst’s Letters from a Seducer was published in 2014.
His honors include a Whiting Award, a Lannan Literary Award, the Windham–Campbell Literature Prize in Fiction, and a MacArthur Fellowship.
A longtime member of the Dark Room Collective and a Graduate Fellow of Cave Canem, John Keen currently is a member of the African Poetry Book Fund, and serves as Chair of African American and African Studies and Associate Professor of English at Rutgers University-Newark.
