Martha Hughes’ artist’s statement reads: “Obsession. Compulsion. Disorder.” Those three carefully chosen words are also excellent descriptives of her Timelapse: Kitchen, Lincoln St, Marfa, a 54-part acrylic on panel painting that depicts her kitchen table in various states of use on 54 different mornings. Painted in a style and palette of colors reminiscent of 1960s Pop Art, Hughes explains, “The Timelapse series originates from my interest in animated film and the nature of change.” Read more of the interview here on GlassTire.com.

Martha Hughes lives and works in Marfa, Texas, home of Minimalist giant Donald Judd and his Chinati Foundation. She received her B.F.A. from the University of Texas, Austin. In addition to painting, Hughes works in photography and computer-based media.
