Rigoberto González is the author of 18 books of poetry and prose. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and United States Artists. Other honors include the PEN/Voelcker Award for Poetry, the American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation, the Lenore Marshall Prize from the Academy of American Poets, and the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America. A critic-at-large for the Los Angeles Times and a contributing editor for Poets & Writers magazine, he is currently a distinguished professor of English and director of the MFA creative writing program at Rutgers University–Newark.
