Timothy P. McLaughlin

Timothy P. McLaughlin is a teacher and poet. He is the founding director of the Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) Spoken Word Program, featured in The New York Times, PBS News Hour, and the HBO series about teen poetry, Brave New Voices. Timothy produced a poetry CD with the Spoken Word Team entitled Moccasins and Microphones: Modern Native Storytelling, which won a New Mexico Music Award and was nominated for a Native American Music Award. He compiled an anthology of student work titled, Walking on Earth and Touching the Sky: Poetry and Prose by Lakota Youth at Red Cloud Indian School, forthcoming from Abrams Books for Young Readers in April 2012.  Educated at the University of Virginia and the University of Montana, Timothy has been teaching and coaching in Native communities since 1997. His writing has appeared in several publications and he performs his poetry regularly. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
