Tony O'Brien

Tony O’Brien is a photojournalist who has made his home in Santa Fe for the past 30 years. Originally from New York, he began his photographic career in 1973, working at the Santa Fe New Mexican, the Santa Fe Reporter, and the Albuquerque Journal. His work has also been featured in many national and international publications including TIME, Newsweek, LIFE, and The New York Times Sunday Magazine. O’Brien also worked with the Ford Foundation on a land use protection project for the Zuni Pueblo.
O’Brien’s photography has been exhibited at the Museum of Our National Heritage in Massachusetts, The Adham Center of Photography in Cairo, and the Newseum in New York, among others. In 1990, O’Brien was awarded the first Eliot Porter Foundation Grant for his work in Afghanistan. He is currently the director of the Documentary Studies program at the Santa Fe College of Art and Design.
